Is a brazilian wax worth the pain?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

So i'm really nervous now, I've booked myself in for a full Brazilian wax in a few days. But my friends have made me really nervous saying the pain is terrible!! I have a bad pain threshold, but I think of it as deal with the pain for something that would be a brilliant result right? They keep saying just shave, but I don't want to shave myself, because I don't know how to do it properly, i'll probably cut myself and miss areas not to mention it'll grow back quick and probably be stubbly, whereas a wax is soft and smooth and they'll do a proper job!

So what i'm asking here is girls who have done this, is a brazilian wax worth the pain? As well as, is it better to shave, or wax down there...

Brazilian waxing are so worth it! My husband loves it and it heightens sensitivity--the good kind! ;)

Got Issues agony auntI've had it done in the past and, although I found the pain tolerable, the ingrown hairs I suffered with afterwards were not worth it. I followed the advice I was given: I exfoliated before, kept the area clean, used the expensive cream they sold me to prevent ingrowing hairs, then after a few days started exfoliating again. Still, the ingrown hairs were horrendous and it didn't look nice with angry red welts all over the area. Maybe it's just me! If you have sensitive skin, I would recommend skipping it and trimming instead.

I don't have a preference for any particular type of pubic hair but I have to admit that men are very visual and so there is something special about the brazilian wax.

It's over in a short time and honestly it's well worth it.

Though if you aren't 100% sure, do the bikini wax first and wait 4 week then do the Brazilian.

I thought that the brazilian wax would be so painful, but found that it wasn't really much worse than getting eyebrows done. I mean, it still wasn't pleasant, but they go in small areas and rip the wax strip quickly, so it's like a short bit of pain, then it quickly eases when they apply pressure. So I think it was worth it. The anticipation was really the worst, when I didn't know what it would feel like.

Daisy_Daisy agony auntI don't find it painful, really, but everyone's different. The results outweigh the small amount of (very brief) pain for me, and it's far better than shaving.

If you go to an experienced person, they should be pretty fast and that makes it less painful, so try to get a personal recommendation or go to somewhere with good reviews. Tell the person doing the wax that it's your first time.

I agree with person12345, why not start of with a bikini wax? If it feels OK, you can go all the way. The person doing the waxing should be perfectly flexible with that!

So_Very_Confused agony auntI'm getting one this afternoon! It's so worth it to me.

I find getting armpits waxed the worst. I think eyebrows hurt more than Brazilian...

take ibuprofen about 90 minutes before the waxing

be well hydrated

be well moisturized and exfoliated in advance. You should loofah (or use a new poofy or rough washcloth) to "scrub" the area. moisturize after the shower and before bed...

and over time, the hair grows back thinner and finer and it gets easier and easier...

person12345 agony auntIf it's bad you can just tell her to stop. She won't do it in one go, so if you can't tolerate it, just stop. No big deal.

I personally don't find the pain worth it, I trim it and that's all I do. It's not going to be blinding horrific intolerable suffering, it's mostly the repetition of it. Maybe you should start with a bikini wax instead? Or just leave it au naturale and trim?
