If both parties really wish for it to happen, it can. But be prepared - it will be a difficult trip. Are you only exchanging messages over myspace/IM? You should try phone or skype or even webcam to keep things interesting.
The biggest factor of relationships like this is trust and communication - leave no stone unturned. LDRs don't work very well if either of you are very physical people, or if one of you can get jealous easy / tends to have insecure feelings. Good luck!

Yes. Long-distance relationships can work as can relationships which first started on the internet. My friend is in a relationship with someone she met on the internet and things are going brilliantly with them.
But things can be dodgy when it comes to the internet. Pursue talking to him before meeting up with him or anything like that. A month isn't that long so I suggest you wait a few months. If you do meet up with him choose a sensible place and time and take at least one other person with you.
It could work but you have to be careful. Good luck.
