You have some nerve. That's pretty much the grossed-out reaction you'll get; if you're out trolling-around for gay sex-partners at 77!!! Gay-men are notoriously ageist and superficial; and will hurt your feelings.
Anal-sex at your age might leave you incontinent. Anal-tears could require surgery. You talk about being discrete?!! How would you explain it???
If you don't want to wind-up needing adult diapers, don't risk it!
It's also high-risk behavior for HIV and other incurable stds. How would you face your doctor being a married-man, and at your age?

 "Wondering if it will hurt or damage my anal area" Er, well, it sort of depends, how careful you and your partner are. first of all, start small, lube is a must, don't try to use butter or olive oil or conditioner, whatever ppl are creative but its not a good idea. Begin with fingers, then butt plug, then a small dildo, If you enjoy it then try with another human being preferably someone who's not too big and who knows it's your first time so they will be more careful ( that would be my advice) and to avoid accidents maybe an enema may be a good idea.
