When does the bleeding stop, and when do you go back to normal? Do I really have to wait 6 weeks to have sex again? My friend said she only waited 3 and it was o.k.

How long you wait depends on how you feel "swollen and like all my insides are pushed out in my vaginal area." With my first, I was seriously bruised and couldn't even sit on a hard chair for almost three months. With my second, I was up and around in 4 weeks. I didn't have an episiotomy either time. Take the "six weeks" thing as an average, and do what works for your body. Just take it easy for a while, though.
My post-delivery bleeding for both was just over 2 weeks. I think it depends on you -- every woman will be different.

It sounds normal to still be bleeding after 8 days of giving birth especially if this was your first. Talk to your doctor if you are worried, that's why they get paid the big bucks. The 6 weeks wait on sex is for your comfort and well-being. If you had an epistomy then that needs the time to heal as well. Relax and go rock that wonderful bundle of joy!

In your stead, I would go to see the doctor.
