Hey Everyone!

Let me begin my question by saying that on January 2nd, 2011, I, a 15 year old girl residing in New York, stepped onto a scale that weighed me in at 204.5 pounds. I immediately stripped off all of my clothing and looked into the mirror, something I had neglected to do for a very long time. I stared at myself in the mirror and promised myself that by the end of the spring, I would be down to my goal weight of 140 pounds. Standing at 5'10", I found this weight to be very reasonable for myself. I consulted with my doctor and he agreed. I set out to lose 65 pounds in 5 months; crazy right?!? Combined with a new dietary and fitness plan, I am down to 174 pounds and to keep on losing. I can definitely say that the weight loss is something that makes me more confident with every pound lost.

The only problem I've run into is that from being so overweight I have a lot of stretch marks and still do have a lot of confidence issues. The sretches really do bother me and are definitely 80% of the confidence issues. If they were gone, I would be almost completely confident in myself and so much happier! So, that being said...

a) what are the best options for removal of these stretch marks. I'd prefer to stay away from surgery and try creams/lotions. Which are the best, what should I steer clear of, and do they even work?

and b) confidence boosters? being 200 pounds isn't the easiest thing to live with, and being only 15, teasing is a definite yes from an early age.

I am open to all advice and thank you all for reading this very long, but much necessary post. Thanks! xo

I know exactly how you feel - I lost 95lbs and have the same problem. & I hate to break it to you...but they don't go away! I find that Bio-oil is a really good cream for scar reduction but will not completely eliminate them.

Laser surgery scar removal is really your best option for completely removing scars. As far as what you're asking for, I will say that bio-oil is the best.

The other alternative was to lose the weight more slowly. Young people (like yourself) that lose the weight slowly still have a lot of elasticity in their skin (especially if you weren't overweight for a very long time) and the stretch marks would disappear on their own.

Also, the older the scars get the less visible they will be. Here is the bio-oil website - it's a little pricey but not ridiculous (we're not talking about a $50 cream!) But you can find it at most pharmacies.

Good luck! & congrats on losing the weight! it's not an easy task! :) www.bio-oil.com

xxblueangelxxx agony auntI have had a similar problem with stretch marks. I used bio oil which works, but after some time. As long as you apply it twice a day every day for a few months they will go away. (i kept forgetting so it took longer for me, but as long as you keep it up they should be gone before summer)

As for confidence, I used to be a very shy person. That is, until I started springboard diving. Standing up in front of a crowd of people in a bathing suit and doing flips in the air was definitely the most terrifying thing I've ever done on many levels. But after doing it so many times it became easier and I felt like I could do anything if I had done that. So I would recommend that you start doing something, a sport, club, anything extracurricular that pushes you past your comfort zone. Do something that scares you and pretty soon you wont be as scared of it anymore :) at least thats what worked for me!
