Also, I talk in a high pitched voice- how do I speak calmly and clearly? Help! It's driving me nuts. Reply to this Question Share |

Thanks, all, for your help ^^

Practice, practice, practice. Record yourself reading and just having a conversation (get permission from the other person, of course). One thing I've learned is that if I tip my head down, as if I'm looking down at the ground, the timbre of of my voice changes and becomes lower automatically. Try it; hold a note with your head up and then look down. You'll hear the change.
Now, you don't want to be having all your conversations with your head tipped down, so what you're doing is figuring out what your voice box feels like when you reach the tone you like. Then you'll figure that spot where your chin tips down but your eyes still look at the person you're speaking with.
Breathe. Don't forget to breathe before you start. Pay attention to when you breathe in ordinary conversation. Then, if this high-pitched voice happens when you're giving a speech, make sure you note down when to breathe on the script! It's okay to pause between words, too.
Watch the news readers on television. Notice how they space out their words and emphasize one every so often.
Just relax and slow down. You have lots of time to get your point across. No need to rush it. Pause just a little in between sentences. No one will notice.
And practice, practice, practice!

It comes with time, I hated speaking not just up in front of a class but in a group of peers. Now I'm a Sergeant in the Army and shout at people and teach lessons.
It's all part of growing up and most people your age feel like this. Just pause take a deep breath, and say what you want to say.
On the bright side you can write well, and don't post questions in Text speak. So I'm guessing you are fairly bright.

Read books out loud and record yourself. It really helps if you want to be able to speak clearly in front of an audience.
