What do you girls suggest? I know I can go on the contraceptive pill, but I've never been on it before and my friend told me she bled constantly for 2 months...

I don't know what to do!

I'm tempted to say, just have your period. It seems an awful lot of hassle to go on the pill just for a holiday. I went camping in a field with no facilities whilst having my period and it didn't really cramp my style all that much (if you'll pardon the pun) I will admit however, that it would have been much easier if I hadn't been having my period so I can understand your nerves.

If you do want to try the pill, go to your G.P. or local contraceptive clinic to discuss your options. Do it sooner rather than later as it can take a little while to find one that suits you (it sounds like the one your friend was on didn't siut her.) If your holiday is in July, your body will have time to get used to it if you start now.

Katiekins86 agony auntYou can take a different version of the pill designed for short use. I'm on the normal pill now but when I was a teenager on family hols I took these ones. Make an appointment with your doctor and if your mum might be funny about it being a contraceptive take her with you (i was 15 and took my mum so she knew it was for the holiday only). It's different as you take three a day, i missed at least one a day as I was quite scatty but still didn't have a period. Like a normal pill you come on a few days after you stop taking them. As they are technically contraceptives they should be free aswell. The doctors will ask you how long you are going for and when your period is due. Depending on which one you get they may ask embarrassing questions but just stipulate it's for no other reason than holiday. Have a nice time.

the pill works differently for everybody, some times you do bleed for weeks and sometimes there is nothing at all, this happens because your body is adjusting to it. why are you so nervous about been on your period whilst on holiday? dont be affraid to go swimming as the pressure of the water stops your bleeding for the time you are in the pool anyway and for a short time after,i know as i was on holiday last week and on my period, if you do decide that you dont want a period then do go on the pill but i suggest you start taking it now then yor body can get used to it. the week that you are due for your period and holiday just keep taking the pill through the holiday it will not damage your body its just that your period will be a week or so later. hope this advise is usefull.

The easiest thing is just to deal with it. Buy some super strength tampons and be super careful about changing them frequently.

As for the pill, you could try it. Most people have no problem with the pill but it takes about 6 months for your body to settle down into a rhythm with them, so you could get side effects for a long while and then be fine.

You can try it and if you don't like it then you can come off it again.

But it's a lot of hassle just for a holiday. I say just put up with it. It's not like it'll really effect anything other than you having to nip to the loo every 4 or 5 hours to do a quick change. And since you'll be drinking a lot more in the heat, you'll be needing to go anyway!

Good Luck!! xx

Not My Name agony auntI believe it is different for diff people, ... but I dont get periods AT ALL if on Depo Provera injections.

A minority do tho, ... most don't, but some can have on/off spotting initially as well, so if you were going to try something like this, I would suggest you started a couple of months early to allow any symptoms as such to settle down before going on holiday.
