I'm sorry, but using soap makes infections MORE likely.
Using it disrupts the natural balance of organisms, killing the 'good' flora and fauna, and letting the 'bad' organisms multiply unimpeded.
Washing with soap can give you thrush or worse.
Look here:

And read the part about chemicals in the vulva area. You might have to copy and paste into the address bar of your browser to get the link to work.
This applies to men too. Before I was circumcised, I had the same problem on my glans, I got thrush a couple of times. It was only when I switched to plain water instead of using soap that the problem went away.
I can use soap now, but only because I no longer have a foreskin so my glans is dry.
Soap is WAY too harsh for use on such delicate membranes, and it strips away your natural defences.
The result is increased secretions as you body tries to compensate, coupled with growth of undesirable organisms because of the imbalance it creates.

Yup, if the Dr says it's normal don't worry about it.
One other thing to bear in mind is that if you use soap down there, it can make it smelly, because it disrupts the natural state of things.
My ex girlfriend used to be a bit pungent down there for exactly this reason, and obviously she got paranoid and washed even more, thus making things worse.
When I finally persuaded her to just use plain water, the problem disappeared within a few days.
If, as aunty rach says, the discharge started when you hit puberty, then that's completely normal.
They're supposed to smell that way, and even though you may not like it, us guys do.

it's normal for your age. it's a part of puberty that the schools forget to mention. it;s you natural lubrication. when i was younger i used to exerience that, and then as i got older it stopped unless of course things get heated with a guy. it's just your bodies way or preparing it;s self for when you get turned on. don't worry about it.
