I'm dating a distant relative & worried it might be like kissing cousins

Question - (12 January 2010) 2 Answers - (Newest, 17 January 2010)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

This year I met the most wonderful boy whom I had never met before. We started talking a lot and later on, he told me he fell in love with me. At first, thoughts in my head screamed and said, "He's your cousin don't do anything your parents wouldn't want you to do." Then eventually, without me realizing it at first, I fell in love with him too. We are both mature enough to understand each other's feelings, we have done all the research on cousin relationships, etc. His side of the family accepts us but I am too afraid to tell my parents because I am afraid they will freak and ban me from ever seeing him again. Any advice?

The Realist agony auntIf you have done all your research then you'll just have to give your parents the news. They probably won't be happy with it at first but they will come around. Try to bring it up without bring so much attention to the cousin part. Start by going through all the characteristics he has that you love put the cousin thing in the middle and if you can end off by saying how happy you are with him.

Best of luck to the both of you.
