A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I would appreciate some help. I am having difficulty telling a male friend that I have feelings for him above friendship and I am concerned that if I tell him it will put him in a very awkward position if he doesn't feel the same way. At the same time, my inability to comuunicate to how I really feel is driving me mad. Should I tell him straight and risk awkwardness between us or possibly us a mutual friend to find out how he feels?

A male reader, Uncle Trev United Kingdom +, writes (28 July 2007):

I personally would use a mutual friend - especially if it is someone that you can really trust. You certainly need to tell someone and a mutual friend would mean that if he wasn't interested you would not be jepodising your existing friendship with him.
