reader, anonymous, writes (19 March 2012): I had a friend in a similar situation to you. He was terrified of girls and says that most just don't even acknowledge his existance. The thing is, you can try and practice to become better at speaking to girls, but if a girl is really worth your time she will make an effort to speak to you and help make you feel comfortable, like I did with him. Of course, a smile never hurts, even if you don't say anything.

Pretend you are talking to one of your male friends. It sounds like you are afraid of being considered naive or unsophisticated, as you mention the village background. Remember that there are many accomplished and intelligent people who come from similar backgrounds to you; you just need a bit of time and experience to feel comfortable in your new surroundings.
Girls are pretty much like boys. We breathe, we eat, we want acceptance and admiration, we don't like to feel belittled or small, we have interests and hobbies and passions. We are not a separate species, after all!
