of course it is inappropriate, you know it as well. first an innocent lunch date and then some nooky for the child minder??? the question is- will the child minder reciprocate. and i bet the wife doesn't know about this seemingly innocent invitation.

SirenaBlusera agony auntIt depends... Is his wife aware of this?

If he's sneaking around then it's not a good sign.

If his wife knows about it, then he's probably trying to be friendly, or trying to get to know you better.

boo22 agony auntHi, be very wary. I wouldn't be surprised if he fancies his chances with you. Why would he want to take you to lunch? I'd be suspicious.

Jayney Y agony auntNo, not at all. If he was inviting you 'round to their house for lunch and his wife was going to be there, different story. Baby-sitting doesn't involve husband-minding as well.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (25 September 2009):

No, I wouldn't think it would be inappropriate. He probably just wants to get to know the person that will be taking care of his children.
