I am 5 months pregnant and I have gained 15 pounds. the only thing that doesn't make sense is that I am not showing anything except a little pooch. How could I have gained as much as I have and not be showing. Reply to this Question Share |

It has to do with the shape of your bones (if I am not mistaken, it is the pelvic bones). The facing pair of these bones form a "space" into which your foetus could grow. Imagine a U shaped bone facing one another: a "thin" U would form a smaller space than a "fat" U. That is why some people show earlier and other later in the pregnancy (when the space between the pelvic bones no longer able to accommodate the foetus' growth).
It has nothing to do with [the mother] being slim or fat, as these terms only refer to muscle mass or fat tissue layers on top of the bones LOL Or even, whether you are tiny or tall, as these only meant your bone structures are shorter than others.
Yes, you will be the envy of all mothers out there. Especially when you regain your initial weight and figure soon after you give birth. LOL
Congratulations on your baby. Keep healthy!

I always lost weight in the first 3 months, and then by about 5 months had put most of what i'd lost back on, but still only had a barely noticeable tummy ... so yes, it is totally possible. Did you lose anything in the first 12 weeks when you (probably) felt sick?
Both times i have been 5 months pregnant nobody has noticed i am pregnant. Both my children were conceived on almost the same day ; ) and both were due 28 March : ) (one born 26th, the other 2nd April) - so I can say that having conceived between about 26 June and 2 July, nobody knows I'm pregnant in November, but by the time I go Christmas shopping it's totally obvious ... with me it just suddenly gets noticeable around the end of 5 mths/start of 6 mths - maybe the same will happen to you.
Don't worry, anyhow - better not to be giant from 8 weeks, I'd say, as it's a long haul at the best of times. And if you're going regularly to the doc and all is fine, then there is nothing to worry about. Enjoy!

Be happy.
and why are you showing a little pooch when its a baby you going to have?
