Talk about weather, politics, ask them about their life and what they did when they were your age.
They might actually have some adventures to tell you about.
Good Luck!! xx

Ahhhhhh teenage awkwardness, feeling abit unconnected
Dont worry it happens'
Find an activity that you have in common, a TV show you enjoy for example
If not back it my times, even though im not that old PS2 gave me hours of joys, now its my Xbox 360

All i can say really is follow the previous advice, and like what i do, if i dont know what to say i just say anything, about anything. Like 'the weathers nice isnt it?' something simple like that. I have times especially with my mum where i dont know wht to say because i am afraid of the outcome .
Dont worry
Good luck :)

Welcome to the world of being a teenager! This happens. It's normal. Everyone goes thorugh it. The best you can do is just be yourself. The only way you get through awkward silences is to just talk through them. Find things that you have in common and play off of those.
When all else fails, I find the XBox 360 helps a great deal. :-D
You'll be just fine.
