 It's your opinion. Most would think you lost your virginity. Modern is having sex, anal, vaginal and sometimes oral. If you think you lost your virginity then you lost it.

reader, anonymous, writes (21 February 2009): While I enjoyed the debate that yee had here, I hate to tell you both that none of the websites you cited are academically recognized and neither provide sufficient evidence to support any argument.
That wikipedia article could have been written by a 12 year old from texas. Wikipedia is a website that cannot be used for reference in any kind of academic paper, hence does not constitute a source of reliable information.
The medical website does not cite author nor does it reference its information and virginity is not a medical concept.
The encyclopedia like the medical website does not cite sources and indeed uses the bible (a book of numerous widely varied translations and interpretations) for reference.
That said, the point that you both alluded to but never implicity stated is that virginity is a cultural concept that varies widely in definition, sociologically, culturally and personally.
For example,I personally feel that virginity is nothing more that a state of mind and regardless of physical act I believe that it is the first time a person "makes love" to someone, that they lose their virginty, hence a person who was penetrated their first time by rape, to me, is still a virgin.

I was against you thinking I was ignorant of the definition of a Virgin. Your counter point for modern times was mentioned in my first comment which for some reason, you kept missing. Then your other counter about 'the contrasting' statement made in Wikipedia only holds half ground. Reasoning is the differentiation of husband and wife in terms of definition. Therefore, we can assume that the original "Virgin" word which is "Virgo" meant "Maiden" which also happens to be "Woman". Thus, Virgin = Woman.
Alas, as Finn has stated, opinions are like assholes, except that these are not mere opinions. These are two people interpretative of different things from the same source. Much like the endless debates between atheists/agnostics with the religious.

Ladies, I'll give you a brief history lesson on where the word "Virgin" comes from. This is in no way trying to belittle you. I am just going to shed some light on this.
First of all, as some of you may already know, the word "Virgin" comes from the Greek word "Virgo" which means "Maiden" - aka: "woman". Second of all, the original meaning of the word "Virgin" during medieval times pertains to a woman whom has not been touched by a man. This did not necessarily mean in a sexual manner either.
As I have stated in my first comment, the word "Virgin" has shifted in meaning from "untouched woman" to a modern variation meaning "a woman that has not engaged in sexual penetration". That's why I said, "The only reason why a guy is a 'virgin' in modern times because the original definition of a "virgin" has shifted to being an *act* rather than *being physical*."
The only reason why many people believe males can be 'virgins' is because of the misuse and misinformation of the word.

 I've never heard of my life virginity being specific to women. Never in my life! Now I could just be crazy or perhaps I missed that part of sex ed, but as far as I know, virginity pertains to whether or not you have experienced sexual intercourse. Whether you have penetrated/been penetrated. Virginity is not a reference to the state of the hymen.
Physically, men don't have hymens, sure. But, neither does that 9 year old who just went for a bumpy ride on a horse. So, I'm with SatinDesire here. Not to mention, try telling that a horny 15 year old boy that he's actually not a virgin if he's never touched a woman before.
I'm not trying to be a hater, though!!
Okay, I digress. I personally think that you and your boyfriend lost your virginity to eachother. I hope it was safe and fun.

reader, anonymous, writes (20 February 2009): That's a good question, there is no set concept of virginity when it comes to homosexuals, most gay men I know, don't and never will participate in anal sex, but don't consider themselves virgins either.
A lot of gay men have lost their virginty to girls in their teens etc.
So for every gay man it is different, some might feel the first time they spent the night intimately with someone they love as a loss of virginity.
But in your example then I can only presume that both the giver and receiver would no longer be virgins.
