If I tell him how I feel, will it ruin our friendship?

So, this guy and I have been texting for about...a year now. He goes to my school, and is a few months older than me. He's in a younger grade (only because I went to school early.) Anyways, a few months after we started texting last year he admitted that he had an interest in me, but we never hung out. And I of course had an interest in him. Now he's been telling me of this other girl we both know that he might like, when I still really kind of have some feelings for him. He always says he doesn't think he has a chance with her, but in real life he probably has more than he thinks. He's like my best guy friend. We always call each other "lovers" and whatnot, but I don't know if and how I should tell him about how I feel....? He's a sweet heart when he wants to be, but I just don't know if this would ruin our friendship.
