reader, anonymous, writes (25 February 2011): I think you're only official once you've talked about being official. For example, I went on a date with a guy last week, he kissed me but hes not my boyfriend yet. If he asks me to be his girlfriend then I'd consider us official.

If she says yes then its offical. You don't want to ask too soon though. You want to make sure you have known her for awhile and are comfortable around each other.

A kiss doesn't necessarily mean you are dating. If you kiss her (assuming she will kiss you back) you will definitely be showing your interest in her though.

If this is the first date, especially no.
If you've been spending time with her for a while, you both know each other, and you've been feeling like you've been wanting to kiss her for a while now, then perhaps she might take a kiss as a sign that you are committing to her...but even then, it's always best to just talk it out and ask her how she feels as well. There's no magic sign.
If it's a first date and you only kind of know her, it's best to just have fun on the date, keep it light, give her a hug, and then tell her you want to see her again (if you want to).
