If college is the best time of your life then why am I miserable?

A male United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I can hear my roommate having sex with a girl that I like through the walls... I hate college so much and I hate everyone here. How am I supposed to make it through my degree when I have to put up with sick shit like this? Why are the girls and guys such whores? I need to get away from here, but I can't until I finish the year.

Does anyone else hate college? My parents told me this was the best time of their lives. If that's true, I don't really want to see what happens when I get older.

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (13 April 2010):

I never went to university in the end, because I couldn't stand the idea of it. College for some is the best time of life. For others, it's not. I actually think it's a bit sad that people say it's the best time of their lives. Because it means that everything after hasn't been as good. From your point, which is the same as mine, it's not so great, which means that when you leave you'll have a better time. That's what has happened to me. You just have to take one year of all this crap, and then it's over. Then you can get on with building a better life.

Not My Name agony auntPerhpas it would help if you joined some social clubs and got to make friends with people that have shared interests.

You may also benefit from speaking to the school councellor about how you feel.
