I'm starting to get back on the dating scene and i was wondering if it is rude or if it even works to write your number on the bill of a resteraunt if you find the waitress hott. Or is that an easy way to get prank phone calls?

person12345 agony auntShe probably won't call you if you don't talk first. You should strike up a good conversation with her at some point, and then you can leave your phone number in the bill AFTER you've clicked.

I once asked a guy out this way who was a waiter, we talked for awhile, and then I left him my phone number. He did call. But we had also talked for awhile before I left.

It's an easy way for her to throw the number out and not wait your table anymore.

Try going in a time when they're not going to be busy and sparking up a conversation with her.

She might be a nice waitress but she could be boring as hell as a person or just have nothing in common with you.

Don't do the number on the bill thing, it's such a passive-aggressive thing to do and they'll have a great laugh at your expense every time you go in.

Dude you're the guy here, you have to do the work if you want her. Leaving your number is passing off that responsibility and frankly why would you want to do that and then have to wait days anxiously hoping she contacts you?

Dating is not that complicated. You like, you talk, if talk good, you ask out. Done.

grymsoul agony auntYou need to at least talk to her first. You say you're trying to get back into the dating scene but you're unable to talk to them? Establish a connection. Don't just go on physical appearance. Get to know her while she's serving tables back and forth. Try getting her to keeping serving yours so you can keep the conversation up.

If you just left your number on a piece of paper, most likely she'll just throw it away. She will probably think you're weird for not even talking to her first. It's like running to first base before striking the baseball. You have to wait for the pitch before heading for home. . .my, analogy sucked, lol.

Good luck.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (19 May 2012):

chigirl agony auntThat doesn't work. You have to talk to her first and engage in a conversation with her. You need to get a "connection" with her. Then you need to ask her for her phone number. Girls rarely is ever play the hunter in the datong-game. Girls want to be chased. You need to get her number and call her.

You should also stop picking out women you are interested in based solely on how "hot" they are. She's a waitress as well, not exactly impressing. Find at least one better reason to be interested in her by striking up a conversation first. Then see if you will proceed to ask for her phone number.

If she's got some intelligence she wont give her phone number to a strange man she just met unless he makes an impression. So that means you need to make a connection first and have a conversation where you come off as interesting to her.
