But this was back in the 70's and 80's and my parents considered it to be a poor career choice and wouldn't send me to drama school.I was told at my own school that I had talent but as the years have gone by, and illness has got in the way, I have not been able to pursue my dream.I am in a band now but we don't sing live yet, as we are far from ready and haven't sung covers. I sing for the elderly too with my guitar. I also compose songs. But I would love to sing and dance properly...I see X factor and wish it had been around before! But now I am 38 years old. Am I too old to do aything about it, and what could I do? I know I could audition for X factor but is there anything else anyone can think of? I am not saying I am the best in the world, but I have some talent. Thanks for your help. Reply to this Question Share |

Go and audition for X Factor, they don't mind age there.
Write some songs and perform at open mic nights. Find out online about nights in big cities with talent scouts and go and sing.
If you have the talent and you work hard you will make it.
As for the dancing, go and train to become a dance teacher if you find you're a bit past doing it for yourself in shows.
Good Luck!! xx

I think you should go for it! It is refreshing to hear of people like you who are still dreaming...who are still hoping. I believe "age" is just a number indicating the remainder of time we have left to fulfill our dreams. So, considering you are 38 and the average life span is 85, you still have 47 years left to conquer your dreams. So get started. I believe the biggest mistake that people make is placing limitations on themselves. It doesn't matter how young, old, poor, or handicapped you may be. As John D. Frances once quoted "Be ambitious! You will never achieve anything greater than you set your sights upon. Great endeavors do not just happen. They are undertaken by average people who gain a vision of how to make the impossible...possible". Just Do It...and don't quit until you succeed.

Follow your dreams!
but i would not take the x factor route, what i will ask you to question is do you want to perform? or do you want to be famous? many people get the two confused! if you want the xfactor that is your choice, but be true to yourself. No you are not to old i never started to train as a contemporary dancer until i was 37, i followed my dream later than most dancers but i have achieved my dream and against the odds. I was the eldest in the university but i certainly was one of the fittest and performed with no label of age. There are many branches of career that you could then advance to ASWELL as perform. You could develop your own dance company and do street performance. You could train as a dance movement therapist. You could do MUSIC therapy. You can do what ever you want if you stop letting limitation in to your mind. And the arts are a career and medicine and art are joining and becoming one so art is a serious career move. Do you want to be famous or do you want to be creative? P.s look at the salary of a dance movement therapist!

If you want to dance for the love of dance, then choreograph routines and have fun. If you want a shot at fame, then give it your all and audition for X Factor. But you might find that you have more fun when you're just dancing than when you're doing it for money.
