I worry a 9 year age difference might be too much

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

i'll be 18 soon, and my boyfriend is 27. I don't know what to do, because my friends call him a pedophile for dating someone as young as I am, but the reason we're dating is because we love each other. In the long run, will this seem like a big deal, and should I find someone else? Or should I stay with him because I love him?

The age difference is not the issue so long as all else is well. Does he honestly respet you? Now, be honest with yourself. If he treats you like an adult and isn't trying to control you in any way, then proceed. Remember that when he is 65 and you are 56, the difference will seem minimal.

Don't break up if you love eachother! Your old enough to see what you want, yeah it's 9 yrs and it seems quite alot but don't throw something amazing away because of what a few people said. They can't be true friends at all if they're going to act like this, a real friend would be happy for you that you found someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with x
