A female reader, anonymous, writes (1 March 2012):

most people do NOT stay friends with their exes. Usually they simply stop being in each other's lives. That's no hard feelings, just simply going back to how it was before they even met each other.

you can be cordial and polite if you run into each other but that's different from being 'friends' - being friends implies an ongoing social relationship that you make time for.

So_Very_Confused agony auntI hate to break it to you but most adults I know do NOT agree to be friends with exs. They are an ex for a reason. Your friends are right.. IGNORE HIM. Delete his info and get on with life…

Boonridge McPhalify agony auntignore him, anyone that gets abusive isn't what you need in your life and we dont HAVE to remain friends with anyone. weather we do or not should be dependent on their behaviour towards us and how beneficial they are to our lives.

Dear Mandy agony auntHI

He is a young boy, and boys are not as grown up as young girls, his being very childish, you dont need a boy like that in your life. Just play it cool, dont talk to him, dont text him, ignore him completely, when he see's your really not that interested what he thinks, he will soon want to be your friend again.

concetrate on your life, get busy. Find something to do that you enjoy, go out with your friends and take one day at a time. You don't deserve to be yelled at. Do not text or call him nomatter how hard it may be. Some months from now you will be wondering why you bothered and date other people, there are a lot of good guys out there. Tell yourself that you are special and you don't deserve that kind of treatment from anyone
