A female reader, Dorothy Dix Australia +, writes (5 February 2012):

Hi there. When he is at school, he would probably like to be with his mates.

And you be with your friends.

You can actually spend too much time together, to the point where it feels like being suffocated.

He needs his own space - and you do too.

It's important. And it's essential.

He seems to realize this, for himself.

You can say "Hi" in passing, of course. Just don't spend all day every day of your free time together.

There's stuff he likes to talk about with his mates that is guy stuff.

And of course, there is stuff you like to talk about with your friends, that is girl stuff.

So if you allow this to naturally happen, the time you do spend together will be much more enjoyable and relaxed, as a result.

So don't take it personally, because it isn't personal.

Time apart with your own friends, is just as important as the time you spend together.

It puts everything into perfect balance.

It also gives you more to talk about when you are together.

So enjoy your free time with your friends, and then you will enjoy the time with him even more than you do now.
