reader, anonymous, writes (3 June 2009): You should use at least two methods of birth control. The pill (properly used) and a condom. Condom and foam. Condom and IUD. You get the picture.
The advantage of the condom/foam method is that they're both over-the-counter. If for some reason you don't want to (or can't) see a doctor, it's all available at a pharmacy. It'll probably cost $40 or $50, but it will give you very reliable protection against pregnancy as well as protection from STDs.
Good luck, and be safe!

Use birth control, wear a condom, ...talk to your parents...talk to the boyfriend, have STD tests done, ensure you want to do this before you do it.
Use some form of birth control.

Birth control pills is by far the easiest, and you do not have to rely on your boyfriend to do what is right and wear a condom. Will your mom object to you getting birth control? Either that, or your boyfriend must wear a condom, and before the act, a practice run to make sure you both are comfortable that you are prepared enough, he is prepared enough, that he doesn't go limp after he has ejaculated, or that it doesn't come off while having sex. Moisture between condom and penis will tend for the condome to come off. A dry vagina will cause the condom to tear.
