It's an apendix operation! Not heart Surgery!!!

If you call up and start with the "I might not get another chance to say this: I love you!!!!" then the poor guy is going to think he's going to die!

Call up and take the piss out of him till he's laughing, make some plans to do stuff after he's rested up and flirt that you'll turn up at his place in a little nurses outfit with chicken soup.

Save all that stuff for next time you see him.

Good Luck!! xx

I agree with icelordess all the way! He will love that you care about what he is going through. If you want to take your relationship to the next level, this could be the first step. Definitely go see him, or wait until he gets out of the hospital and take him dinner a night or two, since he probably won't feel up to cooking, but would love a home-cooked meal (or takeout). Or help him do small chores (grocery shop, etc.) until he can get back on his feet. Bring a DVD over.
