I think you should discuss this with your primary care physician. You can upset the balance of normal flora in your intestinal tract; and make your bowel movements irregular. You can also cause constipation, due to too much flushing of your lower intestine. Be careful, especially now that you're in your late eighties. Some people get a condition called hyponatremia, or water intoxication; which is an imbalance of electrolytes that occurs when the body does not have enough sodium.
Fortunately, you no longer get the pleasure they once offered; and I'm glad you didn't mention any medical-complications that are attributed to monkeying around with your intestinal tract.
