Im a vegan and I eat very healthy but for my boyfriend (also he smokes which I don't approve of) he eats a lot of crap, he does go the gym with me. Then he had some health issues from the junk he eats. His doctor's orders are to:

Eat more healthy foods

Stop eating crap

and to laid off the meat a bit

I went a health food store got a brunch of tofu, veggies and fruit.I made this healthy meal for him. Went he got home from work and saw the "rabbit food" and wanted beef instead. It cause this huge fight and I got so piss (our fights can get really nasty) and stayed at a friend's house. Any ideas?

A reader, anonymous, writes (10 December 2008):

"tofu, veggies and fruit".... I'd go crazy if someone offered me that to me too...

Your moving to fast, introduce changes gradually. Cut his meat smaller, add more vegetables, beans, rice and pasta. Make a smoothie with the fruit, but don't change is diet all in one go. Men like to be in control, and such a dramatic change would put anybody off. Check out some healthy recipes on the Internet, and try to give him food like that. I see you are currently living in the UK. Contact the GP again and ask if it's possible for your boyfriend to see a dietitian, so he can get a good idea about what is proper to eat.

The recommended diet in the UK, is usually fish twice a week, one third fruit and veg (5 portions a day) one third carbohydrates and the rest made up of meat and dairy products. Putting him on tofu is very dramatic, that's food for vegetarians, and maybe not very suitable for a hard working man. Change his diet slowly and take into account the things that he might like to eat, because he needs to keep this up for life and he won't if he doesn't like the food that you provide.

My advice is control your anger and tell him as calmly as you can that you're not going to see him self-destruct - either he stops playing Russian roulette with his health or you're leaving.
