I am so sorry for your loss here. The problem is that when you are in a relationship, if you don't pay attention to the man you love (or the woman you love), and you take them for granted or worse, ignore them; then they take that as a sign that you stopped loving them.
Eventually, they stop trying and they stop loving you.
He has turned to someone who will love him and can love him.
If you still love him, let him go. He deserves to know that he's loved by someone, rather than be treated badly by someone that he loved.
When you treat someone badly that loves you, you're punishing them. Eventually that man or woman is going to say, "No more punishment" and move on with their life.
The best thing for you to do is recover from this and the next relationship that you enter into, please be good to your partner, devote yourself in a meaningful way so that they are assured of your love; and never hurt them intentionally or take them for granted.
