Even though you talk now, have you addressed the issue of not liking him. It's important that is cleared up between the both of you. Apologize for your remark. Let him know you were out of line for saying it.
Peer pressure is a crazy thing. You need to choose, leader or follower. I'm not talking about leading the school or a large group, but leading yourself. Being in tough with who you are, so what others think will be less relevant. You start this by following your goals and what you want to achieve, not worrying about what the reaction of others will be. People like you for who you are, not because you do what they do.
Like telling your friend you didn't like him. Your leader response would have been "i like him, it's OK to like him, and what you think about my liking him is not important."
