 I think you already know deep down that he is not interested romantically as if he was he would have told you he likes you also. It is clear he doesn't want to hurt you and thinks off you as a friend.

I like Denizens comment about needing a guy who will break down a door to be with you, but I think I must add that it woukd have to be a fireman and a fire emergency because in reality girls are a bit spooked by men who literally break doors.
