writes: I think my ex boyfriend is schizophrenic. We're still pretty close even though we're not together, and he went crazy last night. He has AD/HD and has always had social issues and can get very violent, but he really scared me. He sent out a text to a lot of people saying that he's going to kill all the people who have pissed him off within the past month. I recieved this text and tried talking to him to work out what was going on. I eventually rang him, and he was sobbing and crying, saying that the voices in his head are telling him that he's a bad person, that he should cut himself and that he should kill people. He says they've been going on for about 2 weeks and he's so scared. During the conversation he was muttering 'shut up' to the voices, and he also said that earlier that night he's hit someone over the head with a baseball bat because of the voices. Is this schizophrenia? I asked him to seek medical help. He said medication doesn't work (he's always on medication for something or another) and he's scared of being put back in a mental hospital (he lost it when he was 16 when his gf died infront of him). I know through personal experience that there's a 3 month waiting list for councelling through the NHS, and I'm pretty sure he can't afford private treatment. What can I do to help?

well, ive studied schizophrenia at uni and the symptoms you describe are very similar...if i were u i would encourage him to seek immediate help from a doctor, if possible go to your nearest a&e, if you think he might hurt himself or others. good luck

I'm no schizophrenic expert but what you've described sounds similar. If it is schizophrenia he might need to spend a period of time in a mental hospital but it will be for his own good. Call Mind on 08457660163 for further advice. They'll be able to help.
