I think my crush is trying to figure me out?

We do talk sometimes in person but also online and texting. However lately I notice my crush will basically observe me in person. Somehow he often ends up of a distance beside or behind me! He just seems to pop up where I am and I notice he will be listening to my conversations and watching how I interact with others. When I notice this he always has a serious look on his face and when we interact he does the same almost as if he’s Not interested in me. Yet I notice him observing me on almost a daily basis when we are around each other. Is he trying to figure me out or how he feels about me? I’ve never been under such scrutiny. If it helps he did tell me he is insecure about his appearance and very critical like a perfectionist. When we have talked i have done my best to reassure him and tell him I accept him and think he’s great as he is.
