Question - (15 July 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 15 July 2009)
A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I think my boyfriend was sexually abused as a child. He shows so many signs of someone who was sexually abused. For example he has problems with drug and alcohol abuse, has sexual promiscuity, is depressed a lot, has tried to commit suicide before, and is afraid of getting close to people. He hasn't told me yet, but my best friend was also sexually abused so it isn't hard for me to see the signs. I just don't know what I should do about it. Should I wait for him to say something or should I say something? Also how can I help him with this if he doesn't want to talk about it? I am scared to bring it up, but I know if he never deals with his issues he won't ever get over this and be able to be in a normal healthy relationship.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (15 July 2009):

This doesn't mean that he was sexually abused. He may have another problem. If the communicating part of your relationship is good, ask him what's bothering him when he's depressed again.
