AskEve agony auntDepression doesn't always start in the mind. You may begin to feel exhausted a lot of the time and feel as if you have no energy. You may have physical aches and pains for which there is no case. Here are some of the symptoms you may be feeling if you're depressed: Things you used to find easy to do seem almost impossible to do, you go off sex, you feel sad and miserable all the time, you can feel angry and irritable for no reason, you lack confidence, you don't want to mix with people and would rather be on your own, you feel like a burden to others, you have difficulty sleeping and sometimes have disturbing dreams, you feel a failure, you find it difficult to concentrate on simple tasks and find it difficult to think clearly.

These are some of the signs. If you feel this way you can either talk to a close friend or make an appointment with your GP who in turn will refer you to a counsellor or psychologist who will sit and listen to you and help you through it. GP's will almost always write you a prescription for anti depressants. Only take these if you are really depressed as some of them have side effects and can even be addictive. I might add that not all are like that, (I am just very wary of taking pills and personally feel doctors hand them out too readily nowadays but that is just my opinion.) Sometimes it's just a change of diet that's needed. Too much junk food can make you lethargic and sluggish so check your diet too.

eyeswideopen agony auntThere are no EXACT symptoms of depression. But Shandy is right, the first thing to do is see your doctor and take it from there. You'll be surprised how much better you'll feel in short order. Good luck!

Why not start by taking a trip along to see your GP. Have a good long chat with them and explain exactly how you feel. They have loads of experience with this sort of thing, what help you can get etc. I know i have been there in the past and mine was very severe! My GP sent me to see a counsellor and put me on some mild anti-depressants. I always said i wouldn't go down the tablet path, but they did lighten me and i didn't become addicted to them (only on them 6 months). Talking to someone else always helps. If you want to keep in touch or email me then please feel free to do so.

Take care and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
