I have a boyfriend of 3 months and I thought I was in love with him, but now my ex wants me back and I think I want him back too, because recently my feelings are changing for my current boyfriend. I feel trapped and don't know what to do. I don't want to break my boyfriend's heart and I'm scared of being alone because my ex isn't the most reliable.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (21 November 2005):

Don't make any decision about the old boyfriend until you have broken up with the current short timer. Then, take some time to get used to being just you, and getting to like yourself for who you are. Then, and only then, decide on anything like a regular dating relationship with your ex, or with others. Usually, going back with an ex will just remind you of the real reason you broke up with him. If you have changed your mind about that issue, then go ahead and date him. But, as happens most often, the reminder will simply lead to a second break up. Try to figure this out before you break his heart again. You probably will be happier finding someone else to date.
