Just call that dude. He probably was doing something with friends or even doing chores around the house. It's best to talk about that situation in person than over text messeging.

Try not to worry too much as there could be a simple expanation. I'd give him a quick ring and just see if you're still meeting up. Speak to him as normal and if he cancels it may be the time just to ask if anything is wrong.
I hope there's a simple explanation.
