writes: I recently told my best friend i thought id fallen in love with them and im confused as to what to do? i dont want to jepodise our friendship and he even told me he had told his friends if we hadnt lived together as housemate we would have been great together. He said at the momment he doesnt have anything else to give and that he has had enough heartbreak for this year. i just dont know what he really feels. At the weekend we went out and i had a drink too many and tried to kiss him. He said that we shouldnt but now i feel like i have messed up big time and i dont know what to do. do i move on and try to be friends like we where before? please help.

reader, anonymous, writes (10 July 2007): if you do value the friendship and can deal with the fact that he doesn't want it to be more than that at this time, then you should tell him just that, and continue to be his best friend. have patience. maybe you'll end up with him when the terms are right for the both of you, but as long as they are not, you shouldn't get too stressed about it. i've thought that i was in love with one of my best friends before, and after putting it behind me i re-discovered her value to me, and learned that there really is no substitute for a true friend that is there for you when you need it. that can last forever.
