I don't quite understand your question but you're supposed to take the pill everyday at the same time. If you take the first one on the first day of your period you'll be protected from pregnancy straight away.

Obviously if you don't have sex then you're not going to get pregnant but you should still take your pill everyday.

It doesn't sound like you have enough info to make an informed decision about whether this is the right choice for you. Get yourself educated on the pill, its effects and side effects before you even consider taking it.

You have to go to the doctors to get the pill, so you can get all the information there. Your pack will also come with a manual. When I started mine, I was a 'first day starter' and started on the first day of my period. After that week, I didn't need back-up birth control methods (such as condoms), but all pills are different, so be sure to ask your doctor. You have to be very careful, also, because it's not 100% effective, and does not prevent STDs or HIV/AIDS.

I'm starting a new pill soon. It's called YAZ. Google it and it will give you all of the information you need. :)

A female reader, notinthesane United States +, writes (8 May 2008):

notinthesane agony auntOnce you start the pill, you should use an alternate form of protection (like a condom)for a full month, because your body needs some time to get used to the pill. While you're on it, make sure that you remember to take it at the same time every day. The pill is 99% effective in pregnancy prevention.

What the pill does is release a specific hormone in your body that is normally only released during pregnancy. So, it's almost like the pill is tricking your body into thinking that you're pregnant when you're not. This stops your body from releasing an egg every month. That means, no egg, no way of fertilization, no way of becoming pregnant. That's also why the pill will usually cause a lighter period as well.

I hope I helped a little. Good luck
