Eat the same times every day then your body knows when to feel hungary and when to eat it may take a week or 2 to get your body used to the routine 7:30 breakfast lunch at 12 dinner at 6 and allow yourself 2 treats a day you may want some fruit if you eat all over the place your body doesnt know when to feel hungary,

instead of having large dinners cut down on then when you finnish your body will know it has finnished the plate, or just add more vegtables.

Naturally, you'll want to get on the proper diet (research this as it is really important). Then, once you've tried the other methods (if they haven't worked to your satisfaction), and you are ready for this exercise, please try it. Using a variety of weighted medicine balls (rubber coated are easier to control than leather covered - but if you have no choice, use what is available rather than not doing the exercise at all), as you walk (or run if you can do it), toss/throw the medicine ball (start with a four, five or six pound ball and eventually progressing to 8, 10, 12, 15, and even a 20 pound medicine ball) back and forth from your left hand to your right hand as you walk. You'll find that your walking speed will vary with the weight of the medicine ball you use). Don't stop walking or tossing/throwing (except briefly to switch the weight of the medicine ball) until you've walked (tossing the medicine ball between your hands) for an hour (virtually non-stop). As you progress, you'll be able to raise and lower your arms while tossing the medicine ball. Challenge yourself to see if you can hold your hands at face height and toss the med. ball at this height for 2-5 minutes straight. Then try holding your hands higher than your head while tossing the med. ball. Getting tired? Lower your hands to chest height - then belly height, then hip height, but keep tossing the med. ball. Remember, don 't stop except for aan instant to get a med ball of a different weight. When you get so that you can do at least a 12 pound medicine ball non-stop for 60 minutes, you should really have gotten your cardio to a high level. At this point you will likely have burned off fat and built up muscle (throughout your entire body but especially the trunk of your body. Then proceed to use a 15 pound medicine ball til you can use it for 60 consecutive minutes. If you still have a "fat" problem by this time I'd go to a 20 pound medicine ball (somehow I don't think you'll have a "fat" problem at this point) for sixty minutes straight (and if you want/can eventually go 75 or even 90 minutes). This whole process will take anywhere from 8 to 20 weeks, but it will transform you physically as you'd never believe. One more thing: if your budget is limited and you really only have money for a six pound medicine ball, make up for this by moving more quickly or walking on an incline (when you walk/run quicker, you'll also toss/throw the medicine ball more quickly too).

Losing weight, like gaining weight for slender people takes time. Gaining muscle mass takes time and effort too. You won't see realistic results until after about 2.5 to 3 months.

You also have to eat things that out-balance your exercises. I do not recommend someone your age to take up weight training just yet. Wait until 17 or 18. You can do cardio related exercises like running, biking, swimming, climbing, and other sports such as rugby, baseball, football/soccer, etc.

Do crunches and curl-ups - not sit-ups. Eat right: carb breakfast, burn it off with exercise, protein/carb lunch, snack between that and dinner like an egg sandwich, then a protein based dinner, and a salad or something similar 2 hours before bed.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (9 June 2006):

Ok. I did this right after i had my baby. I used to eat alot when I was pregnant and I think that I may have stretch my stomache out a bit. I went ahead and bought me a girdle and wore it tight around my waist so that i could get full easily and not hog down the intake of a big meal that i was used to eating. I would sweat alot from my waist and i noticed my tummy getting smaller, one, because i was sweating alot from the girdle and two, because i wasnt eating large amounts of food at a time and would eat smaller amounts. I would get full easier and wouldnt get hungry again for a while more and then i would eat small meals through out the day (tried to stay away from the fats!) and drink plenty of water. Im a very hard person to lose weight. But when I did that with just a little bit of excersise at least 3 times a week, i lost weight fairly fast. I lost 3 pounds a week! Before i knew it, i was at my prepregnancy size! I hope this works out for you.

Country Woman agony auntBy saying you are fat what are we talking here?

Do you mean a stone overweight or more?

How often did you do exercise when you were doing it and what is your eating habits?

I am overweight myself and I have been down the road of loads of exercise (I have a really bad back though - osteoarthritis) when the pain is bad I have to stop the exercise. I have also had to take loads of steroids for my asthma which kills the weight loss plans.

Have you got any medical conditions at all i.e. asthma and have you had to take any medications at all?

Have you had your thyroid checked as this can sometimes be I think an underactive thyroid in young people which can gravelly affect weight gain.

At your age there are so many things that can affect our weight i.e. stress or comfort eating which I know is my problem and also eating too late in the evening in my case since I have become a single parent.

It really does depend on what you are eating and having a healthy eating plan combined with exercise as the common problem is that one without the other is just no good.

Have you been to see your doctor at all and talk about seeing a dietician if you have real concerns over your weight as this would then be monitored correctly and they would give you a balanced diet sheet and possibly an exercise plan to work in conjunction with it.

Do you discuss your weight problem with your parents? How do they react?

Don't feel alone that is the key and by the fact of coming onto this site, you are trying to do something about it at an age where everything is possible so stay positive always.

You could just need some toning up of muscles such as sit ups or having something like a lateral thigh trainer at home which the whole family could use and it tightens all the muscles from the stomach and bum and thighs. I would get advice on it first though as there must be a recommendation for someone your age. You can buy them off the net for about £30 + £15 delivery charge.

I would never recommend radical health measures as I think that your body is still growing and adjusting so go down the professional medical route and if you are going to exercise it is something to have to stick to for some time and also eating the correct foods and no snacking on fatty foods at all. Cheese is a terrible one.

Perhaps looking at everything you do first of all is the key and why you are overweight to start with as diets and exercise are all great but if your mind is not focused on the point of losing weight then we all tend to give up really quickly.

Let me know some of the answers to my questions and I am sure things will turn around for you. You have youth on your side and you are not leaving it to change but addressing the problems now which is commendable.

A female reader, Wendyg United Kingdom +, writes (9 June 2006):

Wendyg agony auntI think that maybe you have to carry on what you are doing and in time you will notice a difference. The things you are doing a good diet and excersise will help, but they have to be continued, and sometimes over a longer period before we notice any change. If you are overally worried pop along to your GP and have a chat and see if they can advise you on anything you could do to help it along, but the diet and the excercsie are the key so long as it isnt a medical problem. You dont say how long you have been doing it for, but well it does sometimes take a while and you dont neccesarily notice a change over night, but given time you will notice a slight change, once you do you know you are on the right track. Maybe try varying your excercise routine to concentrate on the fattier areas, ie do more sit ups to tone the stomach muscles, but it is best to get the cardio going first, by either a light jog, or a brisk walk as a warm up, and then continue on to sit ups or something similar, Dont give up carry on and you will hopefully get there! You are taking the right steps at your age to do something about it and thats a really good thing!

Good luck!
