OK, i recently bought this new Benefit foundation, and its brilliant, but after several hours i just look shiny and awful - i really need to feel that i look good because of this guy i like and he's got great skin, so i always feel kind of inadequate. Any advice on how i could get my make-up to stay on / get my skin looking better? My skin is quite oily, but i don't have too many spots (i do have blackheads: any advice on getting rid of those too??) Thanks x

Hiya, im a beauty therapist and i would say the best way to clear your skin of black heads would be to use a facial steamer once a week as this removes any dirt and opens your pores. Your blackheads then are easy to remove, this is very effective. But like everyone else had said a facial scrub would help also. But remember if you are taking natural oils out of your skin remember to moisturise.

I use powder, as well as concealer for spots. Powder stops shinyness and keeps your skin looking a healthy colour (im a bit pale and have dark circles around my eyes) and its light too so better for your skin. xxx

Make an appointment with a beauty consultant who will show you the correct way to care for your skin, watch your diet and go slow on fatty fried foods or foods high in salt. rather keep natural than cover your face with foundation. If you are going to wear foundation allow the beauty consultant to teach you how to apply it so that it looks natural.

I use 'Clean and Clear blackhead remover'. It's in a kind of see-through purple bottle and it's supposed to work from day one. I find it's really good at keeping your skin clean :] at the end of the day, remember to take off your make-up thoroughly with a cleansing wipe - don't forget your eye make-up either! And also, piling on the foundation 2 feet off your face never does anyone any good, so keep it natural and don't put too much foundation on.

At your age, there's a whole load of new hormones raging around your body and this is probably contributing to the oily-ness of your skin, so soon it will be riding out and you're skin will be fine before you know it :]

A female reader, citris United States +, writes (7 April 2008):

citris agony auntYou can try Biore Pore Cleansing Strips for the blackheads, or a blackhead cleaning scrub like one from Clean N' Clear. Also, if you have oilier/shinier skin you will probably need a powder makeup to top off the foundation, or you will need to find yourself a matte-ifying liquid foundation.

I had problems for years finding makeup that I liked, that didn't make me break out, or cause me to look like I had too much makeup on. I tried just about everything, however last year I forked out the money for Bare Escentuals BareMinerals makeup. It was about $60-75 USD for the "starter kit" and came with everything I needed. It works like a charm, is easy and fast to use and I LOVE it! I feel it's a great investment in my appearance and my confidence. I use it almost every day, I sometimes don't remember to take it off before I go to bed and I still don't have any problems. The starter kit has lasted me over 4 months now! Fantastic!

If you do not have this kind of money to spend, I stick to my earlier suggestions above.

Also, know that if a guy cannot see past your skin to the person you are, he's probably not a guy worth crushing on! Yes, physical attraction is important, but it's not everything! I'm sure you're beautiful inside and out and you should never let anyone make you feel less than you know yourself to be!

Best of luck to you!
