 I would advise you are open with your friend who likes this guy. She will be a bit miffed if something does happen and she doesn't even know you were interested. It will look like you were going behind her back.
Try and make light of it. Don't turn it into a compeitition because if you do it could turn nasty. Just remember that friendships are in many ways more precious than relationships and try and preserve that over getting the guy.
