 You just mention this friend, say that you really like him and take it from there, if by saying i really like him hes cool etc, you will probably see by the reaction on your brothers face if hes going to be ok with it or not, if you say oh hes a really great bloke, seems like boyfriend material and your brothers face drops a mile then you will know, if he however say yeah hes pretty cool, looks after girls then you know your bro may be okay with it! You just have to come right out and say it or you will never know!

He's your brother, just ask him if he has any hang ups about you dating any of his friends. He will probably feel chuffed that you bothered to check with him first!

reader, anonymous, writes (23 June 2006): Try testing the waters first. Ask your brother if it would be ok if you dated one of his friends 'hypothetically'. Don't specify which one. If he's receptive to the idea, maybe then move on to names. If not, work a little at convincing him in the abstract.
It may not be fair, but you should really consider how this could affect your relationship with your brother, he'll be around a lot longer than most of your boyfriends! If he can't stand his sister going out with one of hie friends, you'll need to factor that cost into making your move. Depending on the guy, it may or may not be worth it!
