The doctor asked last time I went if I have had sex, I said no and had blood tests which came back all alright.1. Can they tell if you are pregnant through blood tests?I've had problems in the past with constipation, stomach aches etc and this month they've come back. I haven't had swollen breasts though, or tender and haven't had an increased appetite or any other symptom I've so far heard of. When I did have sex with my boyfriend last, we've always been so careful, checked the condom hasn't had holes, not let him get to that point when inside me and so I don't see how I could be. I'm going to go back to the doctors if my stomach cramps persist, but is there any other logical explanation does anyone know? The doctor said my missed period could be due to stress (having exams at the moment) or the fact that i've lost 4kg (i'm considered underweight now).Thankyou xxxxxxxxxx

hey,
Yes if your doctor does a blood test they can tell if you are pregnant. However im not sure if you have to specifically ask for them to look at whether or not your pregnant when doing a blood test if you get one done for some other reason.
From the sounds of it, you and your bf tried to be very careful which is really good. However sometimes strange things happen and although the chances of you being pregnant are probably low, there is always that possibility if you are having sex.
Your missed period could very well be due to stress or being underweight. Earlier this year I missed a couple of periods due to those reasons. Other possible causes are a hormonal imbalance, over exercising, or a problem with your thoroid (duno how to spell it).
You could get a pregnancy test from the shops (local supermarkets, pharmisists/chemists/drug stores sell them) where you pea into a cup/onto a stick. They are fairly cheap and accurate.
However, personally I think you should go to the doctors because even if you are not pregnant, its important to figure out why you have missed your period.

Hey Fellow Aussie,
Have you tried doing a urine pregnancy test? You can get them at the chemist for around $20. They are about 99% accurate according to my GP. Some of the brands can detect a pregnancy around 5 days before your period is due.
However, the most accurate test is of course the blood test - it would even help your Dr to pinpoint how far along you were IF you were pregnant - it measures a certain hormone. YOu could go to a Family Planning Clinic if you're not keen on your GP??
Emilyanswers is right tho - if you are not ready to be a mum yet it is better you find out asap and do something. If you attend a clinic or GP they will also be able to put you in touch with social workers or counsellors if you need to talk through your options...which would probably be important!
This is assuming you ARE pregnant....lets cross our fingers and toes that it is just stress and weight loss. Go find out girl before you send yourself mad wondering!!

Well you need to get checked out asap, as if you decided not to keep the baby, it's best to do it really early on.
Blood tests are the most accurate way of telling if you are pregnant as your body starts releasing all kinds of new chemicals that they can test for.
Your missed periods could well be because you are underweight, or because you are stressed due to exams and pregnancy scares.
Get down to see your GP, eat more, and if you are worried about pregnancy then get on the pill or get an implant as well as using condoms.
Good Luck!! xx
