A female Mexico age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Good afternoon,

This question might not seem like a relationship question but I'll explain why it's relevant, I promise.

My heart is set on moving abroad, but I've been told by so many people that it's impossible, and to forget it (not EVERYONE, but many people, tell me this).

I don't being told "no," however. :)

I would like to hear from anyone who knows about how a US citizen can move abroad, aside from the Peace Corps or the military? Does anyone know of any American expatriates who managed to move to Latin America or Spain?

(I'm not saying those things are "out," I'd just like to know of all the possible options.)

Like I said, I have my heart set on this (for many reasons), but I'm feeling so discouraged because I've done research and it seems almost impossible.

I am a North American and Floridian, but I've always wanted to live in a latin country... Latin America, or Spain. I live in North Carolina, but my heart is just not here. The rest of me needs to be where my heart is... another state? Won't do! I want to go abroad again... I'm not ready to settle down and I'm ready for another adventure. I studied abroad in Mexico and speak almost perfect Spanish. When I got back to the USA I had a really hard time readjusting, and I still miss Mexico but I think the real problem is that I'm bored. This is self-centered, I know, but I can't help it. I'm bored to death and if I stay here my life is gonna pass me by.

Before anyone says, "This isn't a relationship question," I will say this in my defense: I've been a little bit sad lately. I loved someone, I loved him for years, and I had an epiphany and realized he's not for me.

My love for him has begun to fade, but it's hard to get over someone. I know I need to get over this, but it's not easy, even when your love is fading. It's hard to forget your plans and dreams for someone. Dreams are the things that make life worth living, and it's hard to let go.

I need something to heal my broken heart. I know that an adventure would do just that.

This sounds like I'm feeling sorry for myself, but I'm trying so hard to pull myself together.

I have always wanted to move to a latin country and live and work there. I did a lot of research and enrolled in a course to get certified to teach English abroad... but it seems like US citizens have to deal with a lot of red tape. I'm not giving up, but I do feel discouraged and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

I know that a lot of people want to come to USA, and I'm grateful that I don't live in poverty or in a violent area... but I know in my heart that I don't belong in North Carolina. You only live once and I want to make the most of it. :) This is my dream.

If you can help me, I will love you forever and ever. :)

Non c'e, sono escosse, e parli brutto Italianio perche un storie d'amorato, una storie com e una Ragazza e LDR. ma venti anni previoso... sigh ok enough rubbish Italian.

Just go and find what works for you - dont get hung up on the race thing nobody really cares. Just find the person of any colour \ creed etc that works for you. You dont need to justify it, beyond love.

live the dream. see the world. travel. meet people.

there is nothing worng with living abroad - lots of people live abroad... (just about everyone else) just decide to do it and go.

you can teach English as a foreign language? why not find the expat website for that country? Spain is beautiful and lovely. (as is Italy sigh and they make ice cream sigh and wine and pasta and wow-women)

You are an adult, you don't really have to convince anyone of anything or build a case for yourself! Save your money, go on an extended visit, apply for jobs, and put some money down on a place to live. My cousin went to austria 10 yrs ago to visit and never came back. He worked at restaurants and different places until he became more settled in that country. The only thing that can hold you back is yourself. Good luck!

Triskaedeka102 agony auntWhy not try to apply for a job in the countries you're interested in? If you get accepted, there's no reason you shouldn't try to move there, right? Good luck :]
