Interesting. Several questions you want to think about...
Was he smiling when he did it? If he did - he might have been trying to use the "Cocky-funny" method of winning your attention.
Or did he do it maliciously? If you didn't sense any form of humor behind it you might start questioning his motives.
Next time he does it, blow him a kiss - it will mess with his "Game".

reader, anonymous, writes (12 March 2007): I agree! I know of no nice meaning for this gesture. Giving someone the 'bird' is an offensive gesture in my books. Is he the same age as you, dear because he sounds like he may be a bit immature or have a real weird sense of humor. Maybe you should ask him, why he did that.

You might need to re-assess whether he likes you or not.

How do you know he likes you? If someone stuck their middle finger up at me I certainly wouldn't think they liked me. Nice gesture to give someone you like, ie "up you!" I think I might have been just a little offended at that! He sure has a funny way of showing he likes you!
