You will have dreamed in the past as most people do when they are in deep sleep - you just don't remember this when you wake up. Your nightmares may indicate a mood disorder, but I would first look at changes in your lifestyle before you go to bed. If you are drinking alcohol, coffee or cola, eating sugary foods...these can be triggers for nightmares. Try not to dwell on the content of your dreams, however distressing the subjects. This is just your brain letting off steam as you sleep and it doesn't mean that bad things will happen to you in the real world.

But it sounds like this is more than just the odd one-off occurence. If you are stresed about something, that could be causing nightmares. Or if you are feeling down.
Some medications can cause nightmares, so if you have recently started taking something new, it could be related to that.
Other than that, have you had any bad experiences lately? It could be something playing on your mind. Or do you have some fears about death right now? Are you feeling depressed?
If this is really getting to you, then it might help to see a doctor about it. This must be really unpleasant and scary for you, so I would advise getting it checked out. x
