I didn't start my period until I was almost 17. I wondered if there was something wrong with me also. All of my friends had started way before me and I felt left out when they talked about it. I was embarassed about it and never told them that I had not started my period. When I finally did start, I was relieved. Now, I realize that it was nothing to be embarassed about. Everyone is different and it's perfectly normal to be a late bloomer. I'm actually glad I didn't start my period at such a young age.

Im surprised your mum is taking you to the doctors, especially as she is a midwife, the doc will just tell you not worry and all girls are different, it will happen in its own time etc.
If you havent started by about 18 then it might be time to worry until then dont!

Nothing is wrong at all.
You may be petite, and have low body weight. You could even be stressed over things. All the above will delay the onset of puberty.
In decades long ago girls were often older than you before their first period arrived. With better nutrition the age of puberty has changed from 16 back to 14 and now even earlier. Much more obese girls can find their period arrives as early as 11years old.
Since the 1950s more girls have started to weigh more, decade by decade subsequent to the 1950s.
Look at vintage clothing from the 1920s and you will see the difference - girls were more petite then. This increase (in weight averages) has progressively reduced the age of puberty. Your period
will arrive, in due course.
In the interim take up yoga to help you relax more.

I wouldn't worry so much until the doctor says to do so. Girls can get periods at ALL ages. I had a cousin who got hers at 8 years old and my mother got her at 16. In this day and age, it's at any adolsent age range.
I'm not sure what they will do at a doctor's appointment, but w/e it is, it shouldn't be to traumatizing. Just remember that they're there to help you.
It is true too, that extreme sport training can delay your menstral cycle. The lack of body fat can do this too. In short man terms, your monthly period is a sign that your body can carry a child. If your body doesn't have enough body fat to it, or is to active, it's a sign that your body at this point is not capable of carrying a child. For girls who have gotten their menstral cycle, extreme sport training and weight loss can take this away. So once you get it, it may not always stay.
But, trust me when I tell you that there is NOTHING exciting about beginning your period. In fact, at this age, all it does is lead to tons of backaches, headaches, bloating, fatigue, and moodiness. Don't feel left out, feel superior because you don't have to go through this yet!

The discharge is ok, but I'd suggest you go see an endocrinologist. However, I wouldn't worry that much, you're still young. If you're over 16+ and you haven't got your period yet - YES, then you should be worried.

everyone's body is different... But I know how you feel as I didn't start my period till I was nearly 16 (and now I am nearly 21) I felt odd and out of place as all my friends had started and I hadn't.
I remember when I asked my mum if anything was wrong with me as I was a very late starter and she said to me that no there is nothing wrong with you, your body will know when its the right time there is no need to worry.
Your body is still going through changes and it will happen when it does... but if you are concerned go and see your doctor... I have heard they only worry when a girl is over 16 and hasn't started yet!
