I have really bad skin and it's really getting me down.

I have acne scars and a few spots, but more scars and it has started to really get to me. I also have dry skin so wearing make-up to cover it doesn't help, it just makes my skin look really flaky and horrible. Plus I don't really want to wear make-up as it doesn't help it, but I'm really self conscious when I go out without make-up as my scarring is really viscous. Also, none of my friends have acne which again lowers my confidence and makes me feel so ugly, it's so upsetting.

Any tips, advice or if you have experienced this what you did to get rid of them would be much appreciated. Thankyou!

HardToExplain agony auntI don't really know for some acne remedies because thankfully it hasn't got me yet but I have had hell with dry skin. I know what you mean with the makeup thing, whenever I apply foundation it just starts to cake within the areas of dry skin and just looks awful! 1 thing I recommend for dry skin is exfoliating with those exfoliating gloves or a facial loofah, get them from places like tescos, superdrug and boots, they helped me so much! Like, if you wake up in the morning with some irritating dry skin patches, just wet one of the little loofah pads or whatever productive you're using with water to soften in then just gently rub away the patch and the skin will become smooth! With use in conjunction with the exfoliating, you can't go wrong with E45 cream and good old trusty vaseline! But you have to be patient, don't just expect all the dry skin to be gone within a day or so! I also heard that oils such as bio-oil(but there's a superdrug version for like £3, I believe it's called restoring skin care oil, I use it and I haven't had any problems with it so far, just try to avoid putting loads on because it can be really greasy..) can treat scars and other skin problems too.

Also, I've suffered with confidence issues towards the way I look, and honestly it's within the last week that I just discovered that people really don't care about how your skin looks! And the people that do care are pathetic and clearly have nothing going for them in life if they are so bothered about how your skin looks.

Really, do not fret over this! Hope you become better soon and find some remedies!x

Hi, if you're looking for a long term fix and if you have the money I would recommend fraxel laser and filler - find a reputable place (google and google till you are 100% sure). Its what is working for me at the moment.

Now with regards to make up. If your skin is dry get a good moisturiser. I would recommend one that is made for someone with acne prone skin like Mario Badescu's buttermilk moisturiser. Have a look at their products, I find them really gentle and they havent made me break out.

Once you have dealt with the dry skin, by using the moisturiser as your base get a full coverage foundation. I use Revlon colorstay. It is thick and drys fast, but if you use a damp sponge to apply it you will get use to it. It provides really fantastic cover, lasts all day... but it does take some time to get use to applying it. Just as a tip use a sponge and sort of dab it and blend, it works heaps better than dragging the sponge all over your skin (that will just pick up all the dry flakes and make it look terrible).

Lastly you will need a good, strong makeup remover to get this foundation off. Ponds cold cream works alright, or estee lauders take the day away. If you remove the foundation at night you should have issues with it blocking your pores.

Goodluck and I hope this helps. Took me years of trial and error to find a combination of products that worked for me. Hopefully I have saved you some time.

Atsweet1 agony auntI know this sounds harsh but if your are african American I would use saint eves apricot scrub daily after that I would scrub out skin with dry clean wash cloth and moisterize with oil of olay daily moisterizer.

also it could be because of what your eating or hair care products

I had a cousin who had to go to doctor but the stuff really didn't seem to work then it just went away on its own. Is it your diet that maybe causing it?

Hi,

You could go to your GP for advice on the appropriate medication for you. I didn't have acne in my teens but it got me in my 30s. I tried every spot cream at Boots and nothing worked. I went to my GP and she prescribed Erythromycin lotion. I put this on twice a day and within 2 weeks I was spot-free. Now I use a face cream with retinol in it as I have read that it is good for renewing skin cells quicker and stops pores from getting clogged. It does work as long as I rub the cream in properly to make sure it sinks in.

Good luck

Get yourself down to your nearest department store and ask for some samples, It sounds like you need a good exfoliant to smooth out the surface of your skin, clarifying lotion and maybe even a facial oil. Obviously these things can be expensive so that justifies asking for freebees, because you don't want to spend £60 on a skincare routine that doesn't cut it.

I use a brand called clinique, I really recommend their products because for me they really worked and having better skin boosted my self confidence a lot. They last ages too.

I used to have super bad acne spots and went to my doctor for help. They prescribed a twice daily sulfur dioxide mix lotion. It was maybe 20$ a month with insurance at the local pharmacy but using it twice a day helped greatly. I noticed results literally over night. They had me combine it with cetaphil lotion (you can get it at target/walmart/drug stores etc in the states). I would just talk to your doctor. I no longer use it but if I get acne now I use bio oil twice a day, neosporin at night, and just make sure my skin stays moisturized with a moisturizing cleanser.
