writes:I reallly like my cousin. More than I should. He is a distant cousin really distant, like the other side of the family distant. Probably 6th cousin or maybe 7th. The only thing is... He got adopted by my great aunt...so now he's my 2nd cousin. I know he feels the same, but I am scared, and quite frankly I ddon't know if its legal. We've never had sexual intercourse, never kissed, nothing. We grinded once...lol but i hardly think that counts. I'm not IN LOVE with him. I just...okay kind of I am... I know my mom would disagree immensly! Because really she doesn't have warm feelings towards my cousin. What should I do? Or how do I get over it, and not feel awkward around him? Because he's also my best friend too. We do everything together.Help? :-/

Sixth or seventh cousin is way out there (I know it's an adopted second, but adoption doesn't change genes.) I have a reference for you. (A. Helgason et al., Science 319 813 (2008)) It will cost you a few dollars to buy it from the journal. Go to sciencemag.org and start pecking keys. The article shows what happened with children in Iceland when cousins of different distances married. It children are the question, it's something you ought to know. And if somebody has a problem with what you want to do, it's something they ought to know.

reader, anonymous, writes (13 November 2011): No he's not a bad guy, my mom just used to think he was a bad influence because hes kind of a trouble maker (since we were 6!!). Not like legal, drugs, stealing trouble. He just ised to be mischevious and my mom just doesnt really like him
