writes: i am a civil servent. have been in service for 14 years. i ve put up my promotion for 3 times, all 3 times was not approve. again i am putting up my promotion after 7 years gap, i am afraid if i will get this time. actually, in rules we are entitle to get promotion every 4 years. but mine was rejectted by our chairman, god knows, what he is thinking, i am totally confused. what should i do to get my promotion, shoud i go and ask our chairman. pl. help Reply to this Question Share |

Yes, you should talk to the chairman, but make sure you have another job lined up first. These conversations could turn into a further reason not to promote you, or worse, fire you, depending how much of a control freak your boss is. If you have something else lined up, at least if you need to leave, you can do so without worry. Also, know your rights regarding compensation in case they terminate you.

You're allowed to ask him why you keep getting turned down. Tell him you'd like to know so that you can work on your weakness. Don't get defensive or angry, stay calm and hopefully he'll be able to be honest with you about it.
